What is interior planting?
Interior planting is the professional process of furnishing offices, hospitality venues, hotels and other indoor spaces with living plants. It goes far beyond simply placing a plant in a corner: an interior planting specialist looks at the style of the space, light conditions, room dimensions and the organisation’s wishes, and creates a tailored green plan on that basis.
With bespoke interior planting, plants, pots and planters are carefully selected to fit the space both visually and functionally. Think of freestanding plants, living walls, green room dividers, hanging plants or moss walls. After installation, an interior planting company typically handles ongoing maintenance as well — including watering, pruning, fertilising and replacing any plants that don’t thrive.

What is biophilic design?
Biophilic design is a design philosophy that consciously integrates the connection between people and nature into the layout and decoration of buildings and spaces. The term derives from the Greek word biophilia, meaning ‘love of life and living systems’. In practice, it means incorporating natural elements into an interior: plants, natural light, organic shapes, water, wood and other materials that evoke or replicate the natural world.

Am I committed to anything if you come by for an inventory and create a greenery plan for us?
No, we come by for an inventory completely free of obligation and also create a greenery plan that fits your location without any commitment.
How long does it take for the plants to be delivered?
After the inventory at your location, we create a greenery plan with all the details on how we propose to furnish the spaces. This plan is ready within two weeks. Sometimes adjustments are still needed, but as soon as everything is approved, we usually deliver and place the plants within two to three weeks.
Why do you always plant using semi-hydro or hydro?
Semi-hydroponics and hydroponics offer many advantages over plants in potting soil. The plants are healthier, last longer, and need water less often. Moreover, there is no risk of mold or pests from the soil. This makes it ideal for offices and commercial spaces. Read more about hydroponics and semi-hydroponics.
How often does periodic maintenance take place?
The frequency of the maintenance depends on the type of planting and the conditions in your space. Generally, we visit every four to six weeks. With hydroponics, this interval can be longer because the system retains water better.
Do I always get a replacement guarantee if I have my plants maintained by Wildernis?
Yes, our replacement guarantee is included with a maintenance contract. If a plant declines despite good care, we replace it at no extra cost. This way, you are always assured of a fresh, green look.
What if there are already plants that were not supplied by Wildernis?
No problem! We can also take over the maintenance of existing plants. We first assess the health and condition of the planting. Are there plants that are no longer viable? Then we map out what replacement costs and you can decide for yourself if you want to renew (part of) the planting. After that, our replacement guarantee applies to all plants, both new and existing.
I see the water meters are all the way at the bottom mark. Do the plants have enough water?
It’s not a problem that the water meter is at the bottom mark. The meter is mainly used during watering. After that, the meter drops quickly, but that doesn’t mean the plants have too little water.
Is it okay if I occasionally pour some water on the plants myself if Wildernis does the maintenance?
We strongly advise against that. We follow a maintenance schedule where the plants receive optimal water. Extra water can lead to roots that are too wet and therefore unhealthy, less attractive plants.
How do you handle it if a pest outbreak occurs?
Pest treatment is included with maintenance that has a replacement guarantee. We work completely organically and use natural control methods. This way, we tackle the pest effectively without harmful chemicals in your work environment.
What is semi-hydroponics?
With semi-hydroponics, plants grow in a substrate of clay pebbles instead of potting soil. The clay pebbles retain moisture and at the same time allow enough oxygen to reach the roots. What is hydroponics?
With hydroponics, plants grow entirely in water with nutrients, without soil or substrate. The roots are directly in a nutrient solution. This system is particularly low-maintenance and is often used in offices and commercial spaces. What shows that your pots and containers are sustainably produced?
The planters and pots we propose for our projects are made of 100% recycled and recyclable plastic, produced by a circular company under fair working conditions. Thanks to a controlled production process in Europe, the CO₂ footprint is particularly low. European production also offers full transparency and quality control.
What does plant maintenance for an office cost?
The costs of plant maintenance depend on the number of plants, the type of planting, and the size of your space. We work with a fixed monthly rate, so you know exactly what to expect. In which area is Wildernis active?
Wildernis is based in Amsterdam and provides interior landscaping and plant maintenance throughout the Randstad area. This includes Amsterdam, Haarlem, Utrecht, The Hague, and Rotterdam. For larger projects outside the Randstad, you can always contact us to discuss the possibilities.
Which plants are suitable for an office with little daylight?
There are many plants that thrive in low light, such as the Zamioculcas, Sansevieria, and Aglaonema. During the inventory, we assess the light conditions in your space and put together a greenery plan with plants that best suit those conditions.
What are the benefits of plants in the office?

Can I cancel the maintenance contract?
Yes, you can cancel the maintenance contract with a notice period of one month after the initial contract period. We work without long-term obligations, so you remain flexible.
Do you also provide outdoor planting?
Yes, in addition to interior landscaping, Wildernis also provides outdoor planting for terraces, entrances, and courtyards. We choose plants that suit the climate and the location, so they stay beautiful all year round.
